Sonian Forest
The Sonian Forest is a vast forest area around Brussels that stretches across three regions and is easily accessible via parks and access points such as the Bois de la Cambre.
With its approximately 4,000 hectares, the Sonian Forest is an important green space for Brussels, even though it is traversed by roads and railway lines. The forest is considered a peri-urban green space and includes several nature, forest and archaeological reserves. It is not exclusively located in the Brussels region, but also extends across Flanders and Wallonia. One of its best-known access points is the Bois de la Cambre.
On the edge of the Sonian Forest are several sites that are often visited. The Red Monastery, a former abbey, is one of them. The surrounding parks, such as Tournay-Solvay Park, the Tenreuken, Seny and Bergoje Park and the Jean Massart botanical garden, also connect to the forest and lend themselves well to walks.
