Royal Park

Located between the Royal Palace and the Federal Parliament, the Warande Park is Brussels' oldest park and a regular stop for those visiting the city.

The Warande Park, formerly known as the Royal Park, is the oldest park in Brussels and the first to be opened to the public. It was built on the remains of the former park of the Dukes of Burgundy and Governors of the Netherlands. Today, the park lies between the Federal Parliament (Palace of the Nation) and the Royal Palace. Fierce battles took place here during the 1830 revolution.

The park was designed by architect Guimard and gardener Zimmer in neoclassical style. In the centre is a large pond, from which wide paths depart with clear symmetry and sightlines. Scattered throughout the park are statues referring to Greco-Roman mythology. You will also find venues such as the Vauxhall, the Théâtre Royal du Parc, the Guinguette Royale and Kiosk Radio, a radio station with bar where regular activities take place.
