Elisabeth Park

Between Koekelberg and Ganshoren is a park with wide views, close to the Basilica of the Sacred Heart and within walking distance of chocolate museums and workshops.

Between Koekelberg and Ganshoren lies a park with one of the Brussels region's wider views. Near the Sacred Heart Basilica of Koekelberg, the park stretches along a long axis. Those who follow the winding paths travel a route in the shape of an 'L', a reference to King Leopold II.

Leopold II commissioned the construction of the basilica at the time. Work started in the early 20th century and was only completed half a century later. Built in reinforced concrete and brick, the building combines Art Deco elements with influences from the Neo-Byzantine style. The basilica is among the largest churches in the world and is open to visitors.

A short distance away is the Belgian Chocolate Village, where you can learn about chocolate making and its history. A little further away is the workshop of chocolatier Frédéric Blondeel, where you can follow the production process and visit the shop and bar.
